Anaesthesia: Keeping Them Toasty

Anaesthesia causes a decrease in the body’s temperature and a decrease in the bloods circulation to outlying areas of the body. Anaesthetized patients tend to get cold. This not only isn’t very comfortable for them but also causes them to take longer to wake up. During anaesthesia our patients are placed on either a recirculating warm water pad or a warm forced air blanket to keep them warm and safe.
