Flea and Tick Control

Fleas and ticks are parasites that are very small. Protect your cat with a parasite prevention plan.

Fleas and ticks are the most common parasites that can live on your cat. They are usually active in, but not limited to, the warmer months in Ottawa.

How do I know if my cat has fleas?

To check your dog for fleas or ticks you need to thoroughly examine your pet’s skin by parting their fur. Fleas often leave behind clues in the form of black debris (blood and fecal remnants). Ticks can be very hard to find as they can be very small or hide in thick fur. Ticks can be found most commonly around the neck and head and appear stuck to the skin. Cats may scratch, chew at their fur and/or display signs of restlessness due to itching/discomfort.

Do fleas harm cats?

Fleas may be a nuisance to you and your pet, in extreme cases of infestation fleas can cause anemia (low red blood cells). Kittens and elderly cats are at risk. Fleas are carriers of the intestinal parasite “tapeworm”.

Why is treating and preventing fleas so important?

The diligent use of flea and tick prevention medications are a great way to keep fleas and ticks off your cat. Fleas eggs and larva can remain in many areas of the household such as clothes, baseboards and bedding. We can provide many terrific options to suit your needs, lifestyle and budget.
